HTs (Lances Right)

ht.jpg copy
Lance's Right or Hollow Trees, more commonly referred to as "HT's" has been voted one of the top ten waves in the world. Mentawai veterans call it the office... they like to park in the keyhole and surf all day... and call that a job! The wave wraps 180 Deg and actually breaks almost due south after bending, warping and amplifying around the south tip of Sipura. A freak of nature and a very special place. Wide sets can be fat and easy to make but everything else is fast hollow and almost mechanically perfect. The screamers across the reef can reward and they can punish. A wave to elevate your surfing skills if you can face the drop and believe in yourself.

ETs
About 300 m south of HTs is an under-rated right hander we call “ETs”. The conditions have to be just right but ETs can produce some long fun barrels and speed walls. Best on a mid to high tide and medium to small swell. Winds have to be NW for a day or more to clean up the SE chop.

Lances Left

Lance's Left is one of the best known destinations in the Mentawais. It is world famous for consistency and quality combined with variety. Three main take off zones can be working on the same day with as many sections that barrel and on the best days connect all the way through. The end section is so inviting that almost everyone gets tempted to try it. Dont. The canyons will get you on low tide and you can end up in a washing machine on high tide.

An easy to navigate keyhole makes it easy to recover from the inevitable reef inspection and pretty often you can wait for a chance to paddle out through the lineup to save the long way round. On the big days, the wide sets make for a majestic sight with a relatively easy entry wedge and plenty of room to pull out before the wave goes manic on the inside.

Bintangs

Bintangs Right delivers more fun per meter than most waves you will ever surf. It is short and sweet. On days when the hell north winds blow everything out, Bintangs shines.

Best on smaller days at 2-4ft and on mid to high tide, this bowl draws water off a shallow crystal clear shelf that protects the north peninsular of Lances bay.

When the swell drops out and the winds blow NE to SE,
Lances beach breaks can be counted on for some low risk fun. Breaking over white sand bottom with banks and rips shaping each section, the beachies peel left and right against an exotic tropical backdrop. The mile long sand beach is clean and free of footprints most days.

Our speedboats will run you to Bintangs for $15 per person per trip (normally half day). The 6.2 m speedboats take a minimum of two (2) persons and maximum of eight (8).

Other Breaks

HTs_macas
Macas Left lies 18nm south of HTs and we can arrange speedboat excursion to this world famous wave.

There are hundreds of surf breaks in the Mentawais and on the right day, all of them can produce amazing action.
